Irish consumption of peas is projected to decline 12.9% from 2021 to 2026, according to a recent report. The country's demand has remained steady since 2017, when it was ranked 80th in pea consumption worldwide. Macedonia was just ahead of Ireland in 2021, at 2,000 metric tons. China, Ethiopia and Bangladesh rounded out the top four. Irish pea production is also projected to decline, albeit at a slower rate of 2.3% from 2021 to 2026. Since 1966, production has decreased 6.7% annually. Ireland was the 75th largest producer in 2021, overtaken by Malawi at 2,400 metric tons. India, Ethiopia and China occupied the top three spots.
