The research surveyed over 4,000 people and found that the main cause of people turning to the food banks was that their income was too low to cover the cost of living. Other reasons included changes to their income, benefits not covering their needs and debt problems. The report also highlighted that more than half of those who use food banks have to choose between paying their bills and buying food. The figures suggest a worrying trend that is seeing a large number of people unable to afford the basic necessities of life.
