Uganda's export of prescription glasses surged significantly in 2018, reaching approximately $449, up from around $348 in 2017. This marks a notable 29.1% increase compared to the previous year. Since 2016, the country's supply of prescription glasses has grown steadily, rising by 12.5% annually. In stark contrast, the import of prescription glasses into Uganda plummeted in 2018. The import value dropped to about $100, a dramatic decrease from the $4,530 recorded in 2017, representing a steep 97.8% decline. This downward trend in demand for imported prescription glasses has been ongoing since 1999, with an average annual decrease of 60.1%.
