The import of prescription glasses in Greece is projected to decline significantly by 2028. According to recent data, the import value is expected to drop to approximately $146,000 by 2028, down from around $169,000 in 2023. This represents an average annual decrease of 2.3%. Despite this downward trend, Greek demand for prescription glasses has seen a notable increase over the long term. Since 1993, the demand has surged by nearly 49% annually, reflecting a substantial rise in consumption over the past three decades. On the export front, Greece is also facing a sharp decline. The export value of prescription glasses is anticipated to plummet to about $600 by 2028, a steep fall from $3,000 in 2023. This translates to an average annual decrease of 25.2%. Historically, the Greek supply has been on a downward trajectory, decreasing by 10.4% annually since 1997. In the global ranking of prescription glasses exporters, Greece was positioned at number 14 in 2023. The United Arab Emirates has overtaken Greece, with exports valued at $3,000. Leading the rankings are China, France, and Malaysia, occupying the second, third, and fourth spots respectively.
