The prevalence of tuberculosis in Suriname rose from 146 cases in 2013 to nearly 158 cases in 2014, according to the World Health Organization. This marks a rise of nearly 8 percent in the number of cases of tuberculosis in the country. The World Health Organization attributes the increase in tuberculosis prevalence to inadequate health infrastructure in Suriname and a lack of access to quality health care by the population.
