Kenya's exports of aromatics plummeted 99.7% in 2018, from $5,760 the previous year, according to a recent report. The country dropped from number 52 to 53 in the global ranking, with Costa Rica overtaking it at $19.94. China, India and Japan ranked 2, 3 and 4 respectively. Imports of Kenyan aromatics, meanwhile, surged 604.5% in 2018 to $2,160, from $306.79 the year before. Despite this, the country fell from 86 to 87 in the global ranking, with Antigua and Barbuda coming ahead. China, the United Kingdom and the United States ranked 2, 3 and 4 respectively. Since 1997, Kenyan demand for aromatics has decreased by 11.9% year on year.
