In 2021, Egypt placed third in the world rankings, overtaken by Saudi Arabia, which exported 44 million tonnes. Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Iran ranked second, third and fourth respectively. Egyptian urea imports fell 32.7% in 2018 to 2.4 million tonnes, from 3.6 million in 2017. Since 1999, Egyptian demand has increased 6.7% annually. In 2018, Egypt was in fourth place globally, behind Russia, the United States and China.
