Japan's gelatin import is projected to reach 15.5 million kilograms by 2026, up from 14.4 million in 2021. This marks an average annual growth of 1.1%. Since 1993, Japanese demand has grown at a rate of 2.9% per year. In 2021, Japan placed fifth in the gelatin import rankings, with Belgium coming out on top at 14.4 million kilograms. Germany, the United Kingdom and Belgium followed in second, third and fourth place respectively. Japan's gelatin export is forecast to reach 2.1 million kilograms by 2026, down from 2.5 million kilograms in 2021. This marks a yearly average decrease of 2.8%. Since 1993, Japanese supply has decreased by 5.3% per year. Denmark took the lead in 2021 at 2.5 million kilograms, while Japan came in eighteenth place. Germany, Belgium and China were ranked second, third and fourth respectively.
