The Netherlands is set to become a major gelatin exporter by 2026, with an estimated 22.7 million kilograms. This figure is a 2.2% year-on-year growth from the 19.8 million kilograms recorded in 2021, and an 8.4% rise since 1997. In 2021, the US overtook the Netherlands to become the leading exporter, with 19.8 million kilograms. Germany, Belgium and China respectively ranked second, third and fourth in the ranking. Meanwhile, Dutch gelatin imports are set to reach 13.9 million kilograms by 2026, a rise of 1% year-on-year from the 13.1 million kilograms recorded in 2021. This is a decrease of 2.3% from 1997. Japan overtook the Netherlands in 2021 to become the leading importer, with 13.1 million kilograms. Germany, the UK and Belgium were second, third and fourth in the ranking.
