Kenya saw a notable increase in its plastic imports in 2018, reaching approximately $772 million. This marks a significant 14.2% rise compared to the previous year's figure of around $676 million. The country's demand for plastics has been on an upward trajectory since 1997, growing at an average rate of 1.7% annually. Conversely, Kenya experienced a decline in its plastic exports in 2018. The exports dropped to about $118 million, down from roughly $130 million in 2017. This represents a 9.6% decrease year-over-year. Over the long term, Kenyan plastic exports have fallen by an average of 7.1% annually since 1997.
