The demand for plastics in Qatar has been on a steady rise, increasing by 4% annually since 2005. In contrast, Qatari plastic exports have experienced a dramatic fluctuation. In 2018, exports nearly reached $45,000, a significant leap from just around $2,000 in 2017. This represents an astonishing increase of 2,150% year over year. Despite this spike, the long-term trend for Qatari plastic supply has been in decline, plummeting by 90.1% annually since 2005.
