Indian propane imports are set to grow significantly over the next five years. By 2026, they are expected to reach 7.6 billion kilograms, a 3.8% increase from 2021. Since 2001, Indian demand has jumped 12% year-on-year. In 2021, India ranked fifth, behind Mexico, which imported 6 billion kilograms. The United States, Japan, and Mexico followed in second, third, and fourth place respectively. However, Indian supplies decreased drastically since 2007. By 2018, the country was ranked 66th, with Botswana taking the lead at 575 kilograms. Canada, Algeria, and Russia followed in second, third, and fourth place respectively.
