Iceland's import of non-ferrous metals is projected to rise to 1.8 million metric tons by 2028, up from 1.7 million metric tons in 2023, marking an annual growth rate of 1.6%. Despite this increase, the nation's demand for these metals has seen a slight annual decline of 1% since 1995. As of 2023, Iceland ranked 15th globally in non-ferrous metal imports, trailing the Czech Republic, which imported the same volume of 1.7 million metric tons. Leading the rankings were Spain, France, and Norway in the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively. On the export front, Iceland's non-ferrous metal shipments are expected to reach approximately 960,000 metric tons by 2028, up from about 880,000 metric tons in 2023. This represents an average annual growth rate of 1.4%. However, since 1995, the country's exports have experienced a minor annual decrease of 0.3%. In 2023, Iceland ranked 17th in global non-ferrous metal exports, with Portugal surpassing it with the same export volume of around 880,000 metric tons. The top exporters were Spain, France, and the Netherlands, holding the second, third, and fourth spots, respectively.
