Maltese non-ferrous metal exports are projected to decline to approximately 1,490 metric tons by 2028, down from around 1,610 metric tons in 2023. This represents an average annual decrease of 1.2%. Despite this decline, the country has seen a 5.6% year-on-year increase in supply since 2005. In 2023, Malta ranked 35th in this sector, with Cyprus leading at 1,610 metric tons. Spain, France, and the Netherlands occupied the second, third, and fourth spots, respectively. On the import side, Malta's non-ferrous metal intake is expected to rise to roughly 9,710 metric tons by 2028 from about 8,770 metric tons in 2023, growing at an average annual rate of 1.6%. Since 2005, the country's demand for these metals has surged by 14.7% annually. In 2023, Malta also ranked 35th in imports, with Albania surpassing it at 8,770 metric tons. Spain, France, and Norway held the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively.
