European Camping Trends in 2022

The number of European camping grounds is set to reach nearly 30,000 by 2026, according to recent figures. This is an increase of 0.1% each year since 2016. France had the highest number of camping grounds in 2021 with 8,030, followed by the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands. Liechtenstein saw the biggest growth at 24.6%, while Greece saw the biggest decrease at 7.7%. Revenue from European camping grounds is also set to reach nearly €9.4 billion by 2026, with an annual growth rate of 0.3%. However, this is slightly down from 2016 when it was 0.9%. The United Kingdom was the market leader in 2021, with €3.04 billion in revenue, followed by France, Italy and Germany. Bulgaria saw the biggest increase at 18.9%, while Slovakia saw the biggest decrease at 40.4%.
