The import of photographic, non-cinematographic cameras to the UAE has demonstrated a significant decline over the past decade. The value stood at 50.17 thousand kilograms in 2023. Initially, imports surged sharply in 2014 by 10.21%, only to experience a drastic decrease in 2015 of -89.4%. Despite a recovery in 2017 with a dramatic rise of 143.65%, the figures continued to fluctuate and ultimately adopted a downward trend from 2019 onwards. The last two years saw a consistent negative year-on-year variation, -4.09% in 2022 and -4.18% in 2023, with a 5-year cumulative average growth rate (CAGR) of -6.11%.
Future years (2024-2028) forecast a continuous decline at a negative 5-year CAGR of -4.1%, projecting a cumulative reduction of -18.89% by 2028. This suggests that imports will shrink substantially from the 2023 value of 50.17 thousand kilograms.
Trends to watch for include innovations in photographic technology possibly reducing the need for imports, shifts in consumer behavior towards higher-quality cameras that could affect demand, and potential policy changes impacting trade regulations. Monitoring these factors will be crucial in understanding the evolving landscape of photographic imports to the UAE.
