However, from 2018 onwards, the sector saw consistent growth, highlighted by an 80% increase in 2020. The past two years showed slower, but steady growth with an 11.42% increase from 2022 to 2023. The compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the last five years stands at 28.78%.
Looking forward, West Africa’s wind energy sector is projected to continue growing, with forecasts indicating a climb to 1.01 TWh by 2028. The forecasted CAGR from 2024 to 2028 is lower at 6.47%, suggesting a more mature but steady growth phase with an overall forecasted 5-year growth rate of 36.79%.
Future trends to watch include potential technological advancements, increased investments in wind energy infrastructure, and supportive government policies that could boost growth rates.
