In 2024, Norway led European countries in natural gas domestic material consumption at 5.95 metric tons per capita, despite a 2.3% decrease from the previous year. The Netherlands followed at 1.86, declining by 1.67%. Significant consumption rates were noted in Ireland (1.25) and Austria (1.08), with Austria recording a slight uptick of 1.11% year-on-year. Germany experienced modest growth in consumption by 1.14%, reaching 0.87 metric tons per capita. Notably, Luxembourg and the United Kingdom saw more considerable declines of 7.0% and 5.81%, respectively.

Countries like Bulgaria, Greece, and Macedonia exhibited significant increases in consumption, with Greece surging by 5.57% and Macedonia by 7.46%. On the flip side, sharp declines were observed in Estonia (-8.67%) and Lithuania (-12.2%). Southern European countries such as Portugal and Spain also saw notable decreases, with Portugal plummeting by 24.14%.
