The import of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to Thailand has shown a general upward trend from 1.4095 billion kilograms in 2013 to 5.1263 billion kilograms in 2023. Between 2013 and 2017, there were significant year-on-year increases such as 44.82% in 2013, 95.21% in 2015, and 31.73% in 2017. However, since 2018, the growth rates have been more modest, with occasional contractions like -11.71% in 2020. This trend stabilized with incremental increases, reaching a year-on-year growth of 5.05% in 2023.
Looking ahead, the forecast data indicate a continued growth trajectory, with the volume expected to reach 6.4136 billion kilograms by 2028. The compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the next five years is projected to be 3.51%, suggesting steady but more moderate growth reflecting a maturing market compared to the more volatile past trends.
Future trends to watch for include potential fluctuations in global LNG prices, Thailand’s energy policy shifts towards renewables, and regional geopolitical developments that could affect LNG supply chains.
