One of the unquestionable leader of the automotive OES suppliers

One of the leaders of the global automotive supply actors is Continental. It’s a publicly traded company which is entirely focused on the automotive industry in contrast to most of its competitors. It was founded back in 1871 in Hanover, Germany.

A quick snapshot

In 2012, Continental had revenue of 32.7 billion EUR and profit of about 1.9 billion EUR. The current number of employees (2014) is more than 190 thousand (and is forecast to increase with the recent acquisition of Elektrobit Automotive GmbH, the german division of Finland’s Elektrobit Corp), though they still can’t reach the market share of their competitor Bosch.

The main products which have already gained popularity and admiration are tires for cars and trunks, vehicle electronics, brake systems, automotive safety vehicle parts, powertrain components, as well as chassis products.

In 2007, the firm’s leaders acquired the AG's VDO vehicle unit from the renewed Siemens. Later, in 2009 the OEM automotive parts made by the Continental were announced to be the best parts in the world. But this wasn’t its last great achievement.

Back in 2008, the firm astonished the market by integrating its VDO. This was one of the steps to overcome competition from the Schaeffler Group. Though, their fight for the leading position in the market continues.

In 1987 Continental Tire entered North America. That was one of the most successful steps made by the company. This was able to happen after it finally succeeded in acquiring General Tire. Once this happened, the appearance of CTNA finally occurred. Today, the divisions of the structure are located across the entire USA.

The top offices of CTNA are in Lancaster County and South Carolina. Later, after its establishment in 2011, the CTNA announced a plan to relocate to Sumter, in Southern California. Yet, the project is still on its move. According to official information, it will cost about 500 million USD, with about 2020 in the hiring process.

Naturally, what makes the group a real leader in the vehicle supply field is its large program for producing car electrical-energy storage systems. These are the top products made by the Continental brand.

New accomplishments

Today, the company provides these systems to leaders among the OEM companies such as GM, for their Chevrolet Volt and many others. Most of the modern and contemporary electrical vehicles these days are powered by the super mighty automotive electrical-energy storage systems made by the Continental Company.

Its Lithium-ion batteries from A123 systems are products which the automotive industry will probably never forget considering they’ve established this outstanding new division in the general automotive industry – electrical vehicles.

We can continue praising the group as a top company on the market, but it could be impossible for us to name all of its achievements, innovations, and products. It is definitely a leader among the suppliers and it will take a lot for any firm to conquer it.
