The global number of credit cards is projected to reach 3.2 million units by 2026, up from almost 3 million in 2021. This represents an average increase of 1.4% year-on-year since 2017. The US topped the global rankings with 1.1 million cards in 2021. China, Japan, and Brazil were numbers two, three, and four, respectively. India saw a 12.1% year-on-year growth, while Sweden declined by 4.9% year-on-year since 2017. Global credit card transactions are expected to hit $7.8 trillion by 2026, up from $7.1 trillion in 2021. This is an average increase of 1.7% year-on-year since 2017 and a 5.6% year-on-year increase since 2017. The US was number one in global credit card transactions with $4.0 trillion in 2021. South Korea, Japan, and Canada came in numbers two, three, and four, respectively. India experienced a 15.8% year-on-year growth, while France saw a 12.6% year-on-year decrease since 2017.
