In 2021, Denmark surpassed Portugal's €6 billion with €6,000 million. France, Germany and Poland came in second, third and fourth respectively in the ranking. Portugal's freight volume is expected to decrease by 2.2% each year up to 25.49 million tonne kilometres in 2026. This is a drop of 6.5% since 1992. In 2021, Switzerland was ahead of Portugal with 26.97 million tonne kilometres. The United States, Russia and India ranked in second, third and fourth place respectively.
