Global freight volume is projected to reach approximately 26.5 million tonne-kilometers by 2028, rising from around 24.4 million tonne-kilometers in 2023. This growth represents an average annual increase of 1.5%. Since 2019, global supply has also seen a yearly increase of about 1%. In 2023, China led the world in freight volume, recording 16.7 million tonne-kilometers. Following China, Kazakhstan, Germany, and Poland occupied the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively. Notably, the Czech Republic experienced a significant rise, growing 7.3% year on year, while Estonia saw a decline of 8.9% since 2019. In Europe, freight revenue is anticipated to reach €403 billion by 2028, up from €375 billion in 2023, marking an average annual growth rate of 1.2%. The European market has shown a yearly increase of 3.5% since 2019. Italy led the European freight revenue rankings in 2023 with €48.8 billion. France, Poland, and Germany followed in second, third, and fourth places, respectively. Lithuania demonstrated notable growth, increasing 5.7% year on year, whereas Ireland saw a decline of 3.4% since 2019.
