French demand for crude oil is on the rise, with 3,240 thousand metric tons in December 2021, up 44% from the same time a year earlier. Since January 2007, demand has dropped 8.6% year on year. Meanwhile, French production of crude oil is forecast to drop 4.3% year on year by 2026, to 497.75 thousand tonnes of oil equivalent. Since 1976, supply has decreased by 5.4% year on year. In 2021, France came in 64th place in crude oil production, behind Austria's 632.21 thousand tonnes of oil equivalent. Saudi Arabia, the United States and Iraq ranked second, third and fourth for production respectively.
