The Costa Rican market for antiinfective medicine is projected to reach $49 million by 2026, up from $43 million in 2021. This represents a CAGR of 2.4% year-on-year since 2012. In 2021, the country ranked 27th in the world, with Estonia overtaking it at $43 million. Germany, South Korea and Italy followed, in that order. At the same time, the import of antibiotics in Costa Rica is expected to drop by 0.8% year-on-year CAGR, from $2.18 million in 2021 to $2.05 million in 2026. Since 1999, demand for these drugs has decreased by 0.7% annually. Lastly, the export of antibiotics in Costa Rica plummeted by 71% year-on-year in 2018, from $49 thousand in 2017 to only $14 thousand. Since 2000, however, the supply of these drugs grew by 29.2%. In 2018, the country ranked 67th in the world, while Ivory Coast was ahead at $14 thousand. Switzerland, Italy and India respectively followed.
