In 2021, the country placed 48th in the world rankings, behind Bangladesh with 239,000 metric tons. The top three producers were China, Brazil and Russia. Consumption of poultry meat in New Zealand is expected to drop to 117,410 metric tons by 2026, down 0.4% year-on-year since 2017. In 2021, New Zealand placed 76th in the rankings, behind Lebanon's 120,000 metric tons. The United States, Brazil and Russia took the top three spots.
