Guyana’s sugar production is set to drop 16.8% over the next five years. Output has been declining since 1966, with a 14.7% drop in the past 55 years. In 2021, Guyana was the 78th largest producer in the world, producing slightly over 83,000 metric tons. The Democratic Republic of the Congo overtook them, coming in at 83,050 metric tons. Brazil, Thailand, and China were the second, third, and fourth largest producers, respectively. By 2026, Guyana’s production is projected to reach just under 30,000 metric tons.
