Global sugar production is expected to reach 196 million metric tons by 2026, growing at an average rate of 0.8% year-on-year. This is an increase of 1.1% since 1966. India was the top producer in 2021 with 33.5 million metric tons, followed by Brazil, Thailand, and China. Kazakhstan saw the greatest year-on-year growth of 15.5%, while Greece experienced the greatest decline of 27%. European sugar consumption is projected to reach 27 billion kilograms by 2026, with an average year-on-year decrease of 0.1%. This is an increase of 0.5% since 2016. Germany was the largest consumer in 2021 with 8.7 billion kilograms, followed by France, Italy, and Poland. Lithuania had the highest growth of 6.3%, while Portugal had the greatest decline of 3.4%.
