Global sugar consumption is projected to reach 4 billion kilograms by 2026. This will be slightly lower than the 4.08 billion kilograms recorded in 2020, when the demand fell by 0.3% year on year. France, Italy and Poland ranked second, third and fourth in this ranking respectively. Meanwhile, Italian sugar production dropped significantly in 2021, down 18.9% to 128,020 metric tons from 157,860 metric tons in 2020. This marks a 14.3% decrease compared to 1966. The country has dropped to 67th place in the ranking, overtaken by Senegal. Brazil, Thailand and China were the second, third and fourth largest producers in the world respectively.
