Malagasy sugarcane consumption is expected to remain stable over the next five years. In 2021, consumption was estimated at 112,000 metric tons, the same as in 2017. Ghana overtook Madagascar in consumption, while Brazil, Thailand and Egypt were the top three producers in the ranking. Malagasy sugarcane production is expected to grow at an average rate of 0.9% year-on-year, reaching 3.4 million metric tons in 2026. In 2021, production was estimated at 3.2 million metric tons, 1.3% higher than in 1966. Zimbabwe overtook Madagascar in production, while India, Thailand and China were the top three producers in the ranking.
