Taiwanese consumption of sugarcane is expected to drop by 0.5% annually to 43,000 metric tons by 2026. This follows a 17.7% year-on-year rise since 2017. In 2021, Taiwan was ranked 23rd in the world, behind China at 44,000 metric tons. Brazil, Thailand, and Egypt were 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively in the ranking. Meanwhile, Taiwanese production of sugarcane is forecast to drop by 14% per year to 191,120 metric tons by 2026. This follows a 4.9% year-on-year decline since 1966. In 2021, Taiwan was placed 63rd in the world, behind Chad at 446,280 metric tons. India, Thailand and China were 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the ranking.
