Thai banana consumption is forecast to decrease to around 470,000 metric tons by 2026, down from 555,000 in 2021. This marks an average annual decrease of 2.7% since 2017. In 2021, Thailand ranked 28th in consumption, with Canada ahead of it at 555,000 metric tons. China, Indonesia and Brazil followed at numbers 2, 3 and 4 respectively. Thai banana production is expected to drop slightly to 1,206,400 metric tons by 2026 from 1,247,600 metric tons in 2021. This represents an average annual rise of 0.6% since 1966. In 2021, the Dominican Republic led the production ranking at 1,247,600 metric tons, while Thailand placed 19th. China, Indonesia and Brazil were at numbers 2, 3 and 4 respectively.
