South African asparagus production dropped by an alarming 55.9% in 2021, totalling just 62 metric tons. This is a dramatic decline from the 140.6 metric tons produced in 2020, and a 24.6% reduction since 1991. Costa Rica came out on top this year with 62 metric tons, followed by Peru, Mexico and Germany.
