Demand for potatoes in Afghanistan is forecast to reach 294,000 metric tons by 2026, up from 274,000 metric tons in 2021 – a growth of 1.1% year on year. Since 2017, Afghan demand has decreased by 0.2% year on year. Norway had the highest demand in 2021 with 274,000 metric tons, followed by India, the United States and Russia. Meanwhile, potato production in Afghanistan is expected to hit 1.16 million metric tons by 2026, up from 925,730 metric tons in 2021 – an average annual growth rate of 3.8%. Since 1966, Afghan production has increased by 16.7% year on year. Rwanda overtook the country in 2021 with 925,730 metric tons, followed by India, Russia and Ukraine.
