In 2021, the country ranked 65th in the world, with 416,280 metric tons. This represents a 1.6% decrease year-on-year since 1966. Saudi Arabia overtook Portugal, at 456,960 metric tons. India, Russia and Ukraine held the top three positions in the ranking.
