Lao is set to see a decrease in potato production over the next five years. From 2021 to 2026, the country's production is expected to fall by 35.4% year on year, from 8,490 metric tons to 819.09 metric tons. This is a dramatic drop from the 24.4% year on year fall seen since 1966. In 2021, Lao was ranked number 130 in total potato production, with El Salvador ahead at 8,490 metric tons. India, Russia and Ukraine were ranked number 2, 3 and 4 respectively. In 2018, Lao potato consumption stood at 2 thousand metric tons, a decrease from 11 thousand metric tons in 2017.
