Tanzanian peanut consumption is projected to fall 14.9% over the next five years, from 175,000 metric tons in 2021 to 150,000 metric tons in 2026. This follows an annual growth rate of 1.4% since 2017. In 2021, Tanzania ranked 13th in the world for peanut consumption, with Ghana in first place at 433,000 metric tons. India, Nigeria and the US came in at second, third and fourth respectively. Meanwhile, peanut production in Tanzania is expected to decrease 1.2% annually, from 619,820 metric tons in 2021 to 604,000 metric tons in 2026. Over the past 55 years, Tanzanian production has grown at an average rate of 0.8% per year. In 2021, Tanzania was the ninth largest producer of peanuts, with Chad in first place at 664,490 metric tons. India, Nigeria and the US occupied the top three spots in this ranking.
