Peanut consumption in Bulgaria is expected to reach 19,000 metric tons by 2026, up 3.5 percent from 16,000 metric tons in 2021. Demand has grown an average of 2.2 percent each year since 2017. In 2021, Israel overtook Bulgaria, coming in at 16,000 metric tons, while India, Nigeria and the United States held spots 2, 3 and 4. Meanwhile, Bulgarian peanut production saw a drastic decrease, dropping 58.4 percent from 209 metric tons in 2020 to 87 metric tons in 2021. Since 1966, supply has declined 33.7 percent each year. Costa Rica passed Bulgaria in 2021, coming in at 87 metric tons, with India, Nigeria and the United States next in line.
