Consumption of peanuts in Malaysia is set to reach 79,000 metric tons by 2026, growing at an average of 2.2% year-on-year since 2017. In 2021, Malaysia was the 44th largest consumer in the world, behind Bangladesh, which consumed 69,000 metric tons. India, Nigeria and the United States were the second, third and fourth largest consumers respectively. Production of peanuts in Malaysia dropped by 78.8% to 22,000 metric tons in 2021, compared to 103,550 metric tons in 2020. Since 1966, supply has decreased by 37.5% year-on-year. In 2021, Malaysia was the 103rd largest producer in the world, behind Guyana, which produced 22,000 metric tons. India, Nigeria and the United States were the second, third and fourth largest producers respectively.
