China is set to be the world’s leading importer and exporter of lobster. Imports are projected to reach almost 30 million kilograms by 2026, growing at an average rate of 3.9% year-on-year since 1997. In 2021, the US overtook China with 23.2 million kilograms, while China, South Korea and Italy came in second, third and fourth respectively. Exports are expected to total 65,310 kilograms by 2026, declining at an average rate of 1.5% year-on-year since 1997. In 2021, Spain was ahead at 71,380 kilograms, with the US, UK and Philippines ranking second, third and fourth respectively.
