Burkina Faso's maize consumption is expected to reach 1.5 million metric tons by 2026, according to a new report. This is an increase of 0.7% year-on-year from 1.44 million metric tons in 2021. Since 2017, Burkinabe demand has grown at an annual rate of 1.3%. In 2021, Burkina Faso was ranked 25th in the world for maize consumption, with Vietnam overtaking them at 1.44 million metric tons. India, China and Indonesia ranked 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively. Burkina Faso's maize production is also set to rise to 2.06 million metric tons by 2026, from 1.82 million metric tons in 2021. This is a 2.1% year-on-year average growth rate since 1966. In 2021, Venezuela overtook Burkina Faso, ranking 49th in the world with 1.82 million metric tons. China, Brazil and Argentina ranked 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively.
