Maize consumption is expected to reach 146.7 million metric tonnes by 2026, up 0.5% year on year. From 2017 to 2021, demand rose 0.6% annually. In 2021, Mexico led the world in maize consumption, with 14.9 million metric tonnes. India, China and Indonesia were second, third and fourth respectively. The United Arab Emirates saw a 5.3% increase year on year while Guyana decreased 20.6%. Global maize production is set to reach 1.3 billion metric tonnes by 2026, an average rate of 1.5% year on year. Since 1966, production rose 1.2% year on year. In 2021, the United States led the way with 361.6 million metric tonnes, followed by China, Brazil and Argentina. Kuwait saw a 32.5% increase compared to 1966, whereas Barbados decreased by 44.6%.
