Cabo Verde's maize consumption is projected to grow slowly over the next five years, reaching 25,000 metric tons by 2026. In 2021, the country stood at 24,000 metric tons—just behind New Zealand—in terms of maize consumption. India, China, and Indonesia came in at second, third, and fourth place in the ranking, respectively. In terms of production, Cabo Verde saw a decrease of 11% from 2018 to 2019, from 719 metric tons to 640 metric tons. This is a nine-point-seven per cent decrease from 1966. The Bahamas overtook Cabo Verde in 2019, while China, Brazil, and Argentina came in at second, third, and fourth place.
