Mauritania's maize consumption is expected to reach almost 18 thousand metric tons by 2026, an increase of 1.8% year-on-year. Since 2017, demand has grown by an average of 2.2% annually, making the country 115th in the global ranking in 2021. Trinidad and Tobago was ahead in the same year, with 16 thousand metric tons. India, China, and Indonesia ranked 2nd, 3rd, and 4th respectively. Mauritania's maize production is also predicted to rise to nearly 17 thousand metric tons by 2026, averaging a 1.6% increase year-on-year. Since 1966, production has grown by a yearly rate of 9.6%, making Mauritania 122nd in the global ranking in 2021. Gambia was ahead with 15,170 metric tons, while China, Brazil, and Argentina came in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th respectively.
