Rwandan alcoholic drink consumption is projected to rise modestly, reaching approximately 3,400 metric tons by 2028, up from around 3,000 metric tons in 2023. This represents an average annual growth rate of 1.8%. Since 2019, the demand in Rwanda has remained stable. In the global ranking for 2023, Rwanda placed 103rd, with Botswana slightly ahead, also at 3,000 metric tons. India, Japan, and Russia occupied the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively. In contrast, Rwandan alcoholic drink exports are expected to see a significant decline. By 2028, export values are forecasted to plummet to roughly $534,000, down from nearly $2 million in 2023. This marks a steep annual decrease of 20.3% in the compound annual growth rate (CAGR). Since 2001, Rwanda’s supply of alcoholic drinks for export has decreased by an average of 10.3% each year.
