Ghana's consumption of alcoholic drinks is projected to reach 54,000 metric tons by 2028, up from 43,000 metric tons in 2023. This marks an average annual growth rate of 3.7%. Since 2019, demand in the country has increased by an average of 6.1% each year. In 2023, Ghana ranked 36th globally in terms of alcoholic drink consumption, overtaken by Italy, which also consumed 43,000 metric tons. Leading the global rankings were India, Japan, and Russia, occupying the second, third, and fourth spots respectively. On the export front, Ghana's alcoholic drink exports fell to $39.9 million in 2018, down from $40.9 million in 2017, a decline of 2.6% year-on-year. Since 2001, the country's supply has been decreasing at an average annual rate of 4.8%.
