Sri Lanka's consumption of alcoholic drinks is projected to reach approximately 5,240 metric tons by 2028, up from about 5,000 metric tons in 2023. This represents an average annual growth rate of 0.7%. Since 2019, the demand for alcoholic beverages in Sri Lanka has remained stable. In 2023, Sri Lanka ranked 95th globally in terms of alcoholic drink consumption, with Malawi slightly ahead at the same 5,000 metric tons. Leading the global rankings were India, Japan, and Russia, occupying the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively. On the export front, Sri Lanka's alcoholic drink exports are on track to reach nearly $33.2 million by 2028, up from around $27.5 million in 2023. This marks an average annual growth rate of 2.9%. Since 1999, the country's supply of alcoholic drinks for export has increased by an average of 4.7% each year.
