Nepal's consumption of alcoholic drinks is projected to hit approximately 9,700 metric tons by 2028, up from 8,000 metric tons in 2023. This marks an average annual growth rate of 2.7%. Since 2019, the demand for alcoholic beverages in Nepal has been increasing at a similar yearly rate. In 2023, Nepal was ranked 83rd globally in terms of alcoholic drink consumption, with Papua New Guinea surpassing it at the 8,000 metric ton mark. The leading countries in this ranking were India, Japan, and Russia, occupying the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively. On the export front, Nepal's alcoholic drink exports surged to nearly $611,000 in 2017, up from about $447,000 in 2016. This represents a 36.7% increase compared to 2016. Since 1999, Nepal's supply of alcoholic beverages has grown at an annual rate of 19.2%.
