Irish road traffic volume is projected to hit 48.1 billion vehicle-kilometers by 2028, up from 46.1 billion vehicle-kilometers in 2023. This marks an average annual growth rate of 0.7%. Since 2016, however, the country's road traffic demand has seen a slight decline, averaging a 0.6% decrease per year. As of 2023, Ireland ranked eighth globally in terms of vehicle-kilometers traveled. Finland narrowly edged out Ireland, also recording 46.1 billion vehicle-kilometers. In the same ranking, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands secured the second, third, and fourth positions, respectively.
