Bulgarian mental health expenditure is projected to hit €70 million by 2028, up from €53 million in 2023, according to recent data. This marks an average annual growth rate of 4.6%. Since 2017, Bulgaria has seen a 15% year-on-year increase in demand for mental health services. Despite this growth, the country ranked 19th in terms of mental health spending in 2023, with Malta surpassing Bulgaria at the same expenditure level of €53 million. Leading the rankings were the Netherlands, Norway, and Switzerland, occupying the second, third, and fourth spots respectively.
